Position Description:
Basic Function:
Lead a design engineering group of 15 – 20 people to successfully execute major and minor product development projects. Engineering manager is accountable for the engineering budget of the platform and for the function, reliability, timing and cost of all product development activity within the Platform.
Responsibilities: 1. Prepares and manages budget for the assigned projects and/or products ($5-6 million) 2. Prepares engineering project documentation for major milestone reviews. 3. Leads and guides assigned personnel in major, important product development activities. 4. Develops product development plan, then originates, develops, prepares and/or coordinates completion of designs, layouts, drawings, bill of materials, project documentation, specification manuals, service parts guidance and technical expertise for major products being developed and/or improved per project plan and schedule consistent with assigned project and product line objectives. 5. Studies, recommends and uses appropriate Engineering techniques and optimum standardization in the use of manufacturing technology and processes to produce cost effective designs, considering applicable safety, industry, government, company standards and regulations. 6. Defines, develops, and maintains design analysis methods and develops design features to improve functionality and overall product performance. 7. Initiates requests for and provides input and directions to internal and/or outside support groups to ensure timely completion of projects to resolve problems and obtain information for optimum designs. 8. Capitalizes on process and product opportunities by locating and proposing innovations with invention disclosures, including screening and advocating proposals for others, proposes and develops new design concepts relative to assigned and related projects which will advance acceptance of the product/systems. 9. Identifies, researches and solves functional, mechanical and design problems to improve product performance and reliability, and ensure timely product release. 10. Provides technical expertise and liaison to other functions within the corporate sector to resolve problems and to explore and champion design alternatives. 11. Keeps informed of engineering and construction and/or agricultural technological developments, and evolving field practices through field contacts, attending meetings and maintaining membership in technical societies.
A master degree in engineering or management is an asset. * Professional engineering certification is preferred. Experience effectively managing people. Proficiency in the management of major projects from conception to completion. Intimate working knowledge and experience with a formal product development process. Mobile equipment experience is preferred.
